The Art of the Holidays

Four Seasons Residence Interior Design | San Francisco
With summer behind us and school back in session, many of us have structured time to forecast a bit more. Planning for the holidays in October might seem extreme, however, as creatives, we like to think ahead – and oftentimes it’s necessary!

Hospitality

As the host of holiday gatherings, prioritize ways to increase comfort in your spaces for your guests and make them feel special. It’s more than simply having furniture fill a room. For example, having a quality dining room table and comfortable chairs for get-togethers is great, but don’t forget to style them.

This can include art on the walls, corners setup for entertainment, or a bar table for cocktails. You can focus on your powder room, which we call the “jewelry box” in the design industry. The powder room is an optimal showcase for adding bold play and sophistication.

Entertaining

Entertainment is a vital aspect of gatherings. Living rooms are the perfect place to bring people together. Make sure you have plenty of seating and appropriate lighting. Antique stools, benches, or accent chairs can bring the space together.

If your family enjoys game nights, a game table in the corner would make a fantastic addition to any living room.

Use this opportunity to brainstorm ways to layer and complete your space. We’re always here to bounce ideas.

EXPERIENCE

Atmosphere plays a significant role in hosting gatherings. Think of how you can make your spaces cozier for the winter. For example, sconce lamps and window treatments emit a comfortable vibe as the temperature drops.

Additionally, finishing design touches contribute to your guests’ experience. These truly make a home a home. Layered draperies, accents, art, accessories, and pops of color can elevate a space and build noteworthy memories for those you entertain. Of course, you also want your spaces to resonate with your family.

You don’t need to aim for picture-perfect, Instagram-worthy spaces. Those aren’t interesting, and they lack depth. However, designing your spaces to reflect your interests, values, and how you view your guests brings dimension and texture to them.

Even embellishing the exterior of your home can create an indelible impression for someone. As a note, we offer outside decorations for the holidays for those who need them.
What can you incorporate into your space to create a memorable holiday experience?
